Vision Test -
It’s very important for vision to be checked during a DOT physical to ensure that the individual who is looking to drive a commercial vehicle can see well. Those with poor eyesight can still drive commercial vehicles with adequate corrective lenses or glasses.
Hearing Test -
Having the ability to hear is also important when you are driving, especially when you are in a commercial vehicle. Any individual driving a commercial vehicle needs to be aware of the smaller vehicles they are sharing the road with. This requires the individual to be listening for cars and staying vigilant to look for any vehicles near them on the road.
Heart health check -
Checking for irregular heartbeats during DOT physicals will help keep the individual looking to drive a commercial vehicle and everyone sharing the road with them safe. If any irregular heart patterns are detected, the individual being tested will not be allowed to drive.
Urinalysis -
A urinalysis can check if there are any drugs in the system of the individual being tested. However, a urinalysis can also check for sugar and protein levels to see if the individual is diabetic, pre-diabetic, or having issues with their kidneys.
Physical exam -
Any other things the doctor thinks are necessary to check during a DOT physical will be checked. This could be neurological abilities, lungs, spine, chest, and any other physical or internal organs that they are concerned could affect an individual's ability to drive a commercial vehicle.
