Once your treatment starts, your therapist’s first duty will be to reduce the pain and swelling you feel. There are a wide range of techniques your therapist will draw on to do this, including manual therapy, heat therapy, cold therapy, water therapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. Together, you’ll find the therapy that works best for you.
As soon as the pain and swelling are under control, your physical therapy will probably include exercise of some kind. You might be asked to participate in core exercises, weight lifting, stretching, or just walking. Your therapist may also put together a program you can work on at home.
Throughout your treatment, keep in mind that mild soreness and swelling are normal parts of the process. However, if these symptoms bother you, discuss them with your physical therapist.
